The Confines of Freedom

hcdjfb

Is it Freedom if I am free to do something that takes away the freedom of another?

Or is that just selfishness?

Is it Freedom to withhold what another needs so that we are free to do with it what we will?

Or is that selfishness?

If we exercise freedom that take it away from another,

Maybe it is not selfishness, but a blindness that refuses to see the other.

Or is freedom when we are both free without limiting the freedom of another?

Or is our freedom only truly freedom, when we share that freedom?

When we exercise “freedom” at the expense of another, neither of us is truly free,

For we have constructed an idol,

A monstrous one that looks like us, but feeds on the limits imposed on others,

Making both of our worlds smaller.

Not only does my freedom confine yours, it confines us both.

Expand our shared freedom and expand both of our lives.
