There is the Hebrew word, tzedakah, which is often translated as “charity” or almsgiving,
But it ultimately means “justice.” So. think justice flavored with generosity.
And there is Chesed, which simply means “kindness.”
Take Chesed and Tzedakah together and you have justice and kindness, flavored with generosity.
Imagine being at the corner of Chesed and Tzedakah.
and join me there.
Now which comes first?
If you start with chesed, tzedakah follows close behind.
And it is hard to think of tzedakah without chesed involved.
Kindness results in a sense of justice and generosity, not pity or charity
But generosity blooming out of a sense of justice.
I think that the corner of tzedakah and chesed
Is the best place to park your heart.
You can find it in the darkness from the gentle light it emits.
May it be my home address, so I may welcome you there,
And tell you,
“Welcome home."
