Treasure Cave

Like Aladdin, I have a treasure cave

That I can visit without the worry of forty thieves.

In that cave are stored my memories,

The smell of my mother’s freshly baked bread

The smell of the clean neck of a baby

My little sister’s singing

The sound of wind rushing through pines without another sound.

The sound of the sea crashing on rocks with the accompaniment of gulls.

The sight of the willows swaying at my grandmother’s house.

These are the jewels in that cave.

There are some shadows there as well

That remind me that I’m in a cave.

Moments of sadness, failure and loss,

But these make the treasure shine brighter,

There is a dragon guarding the treasures.

His name is time past.

He reminds me  that the treasures remain in the cave

And cannot be removed.

But he doesn’t mind if I look around.
