Where Memories Dwell

Memories live in the mind, stored as long as the mind will hold them.

Both good memories and bad live there.

But merciful Providence allows the heart to edit them,

To preserve the mind and to keep the heart from breaking.

The heart cannot hold memories for this reason:

To expand, a heart must break many times.

So the heart can only edit memories, as it can only contain so many.

When you encounter a great heart,

Remember that it has been broken many times,

And many memories dwell in the mind.
